If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I love a good high/low moment. Give me something practical, affordable, maybe even a little basic… and I’ll happily dream about how to turn it into something that feels special and built just for our home. That is exactly what happened with our IKEA PAX wardrobe.

What started as a simple storage solution became one of my favorite transformations in our bedroom. And the best part? We didn’t need a fully custom millwork budget to get there. Let me tell you how we did it.

There’s something about a window seat that just makes a home feel instantly cozier. I’ve been dreaming of one in this little corner for years, but since my heart can never fully commit to built-ins (ha!), I decided to go with a modular approach. Bonus: it’s renter-friendly too!

As my boys have grown, the space has naturally evolved too, so it was time to refresh the room to better fit their style. And of course, like most pre-teens and teens, they wanted LED lights in their bedroom. But it wouldn’t be me if I just stuck them on the wall! So I’m showing you how I installed them in a creative way, so you can try it too.

These two projects came to life out of a need for specific furniture pieces, using what I already had on hand, and sticking to a budget. Both of these DIYs are built around a plain Ikea piece (the IKEA Havsta cabinet). Spoiler alert: they turned out even better than I expected.
