3 styles of gallery walls with family pictures

Gallery walls are my favorite way to dress up walls, I have been doing gallery walls since we were renting as it was one of the most practical ways we could personalized our home without compromising our deposit, Command strips for the win!

Now that we own our first home it is no difference, I don’t want to create feature walls and add molding on every wall in our home but I want to make every space to feel special and unique.

I see gallery walls as a way to tell a story of the family that lives in the house, a great way to add character and make a space interesting looking, plus they can be also much more affordable when trying to fill a large wall instead of doing just one large art piece.

There is a gallery wall style that can fit anyone decor style. If you like something more clean and organized, grid style gallery walls are for you, or if you are more spontaneous and love changing things around your home often, a collected and/or eclectic gallery wall style is for you, that is my favorite style too! You can have both styles in your home, depending on the walls that you want to dress up.

On today’s post I will talk about three ideas you can do to create a unique gallery wall with family pictures.

  1. Mixed art and family pictures

This type of gallery wall is my favorite for living rooms, if you don’t want to add a bunch of family pictures but instead keep it more subtle you can mix a few of your favorite candid family pictures and add to the mix some of your favorite art pieces, even better if the art also represents your family. Maybe a picture or art of your favorite place to visit, favorite flowers, favorite artist, heirloom art, etc. Make it all about you and yours.

For these gallery walls I used ikea frames (black and white frames) in different sizes. The wood frames are from homegoods. Small printed art is from Juniper print shop. Large woman art is from my favorite artist, Juniper Briggs. The other two pieces of art are vintage that were available for purchase on my shop.

2. Grid style gallery wall

One of the easiest to create but a bit tricky to install since you have to be more precise with spacing between each frame. At the end the result will be totally worth it!

For this gallery wall I used Frame it easy framing service, here is also a very similar frame option from Target, I also love this ornate option, and this is a very affordable set as well. .

3. Gallery walls on stairs

Just very recently I did this gallery wall in our stairway. I always wanted to do a gallery wall going up the stairs with family pictures, I think they look so cute, and make a house feel like home.

For this type of gallery wall I loved using candid pictures of our family, walking up while looking at those precious memories is my favorite thing in our home, it just makes the stairway even more sweeter.

For this gallery wall I wanted to keep the theme all in black and white to balance the black stairs and taupe trim.

Here are all the frame sizes I used, they are all from Michaels.

2 13” x 13” frame

2 19” x 15” frame

1 8” x 8” frame

1 18” x 18” frame

1 10” x 12” frame

Thats all! Let me know which one is your favorite in the comments.
